What are the side effects of tea and coffee?

Tea and Coffee are healthy beverages. They contain caffeine which boosts your mood, metabolism, mental and physical activity. According to research, it is safe for the people who consume it in low amounts. However, taking high doses of caffeine may have unpleasant and dangerous side effects. In this article, we are going to discuss the side effects of tea and coffee. Let’s have a look.

1. Insomnia

Caffeine can stay awake. Taking too much caffeine may impact your sleep quality and quantity. According to a report, excessive caffeine intake may increase the time to fall asleep while taking a small or moderate amount of caffeine does not affect sleep. To avoid insomnia, one should avoid caffeine consumption by the early afternoon. 

2. Anxiety

Caffeine is used to increase alertness which blocks the effects of adenosine which make you feel tired. At the same time, it also triggers adrenaline which increases energy. Higher doses of caffeine can lead to anxiety and nervousness. 

  1. Blood Pressure 

Caffeine increases the risk of high blood pressure due to its effect on the nervous system. The risk of heart attack and stroke increased due to blood pressure because it blocks the arteries over time and restricts the flood of blood to the heart and brain. 

People should pay attention to the dosage of caffeine, especially if they are having high blood pressure issues.

Drinking unfiltered coffee increases the amount of cholesterol in the blood which increases the risk of heart disease.

The excessive amount of caffeine can worsen diarrhea and other symptoms of IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome)

According to a study, excessive intake of caffeine can increase urinary frequency or urgency. If you feel that drinking a lot of caffeinated beverages increases your urination frequency, then you should cut off your intake of caffeine.

Caffeinated beverages including coffee, tea, and others increase energy levels. However, it 

can also have the opposite effect by leading to rebound fatigue after the caffeine leaves your system. You can consume it all day. But it will affect your sleep. If you want to maximize caffeine’s benefits on energy and avoid rebound fatigue, you can consume it in moderate rather than high doses.

Excessive intake of caffeine may increase heart rate. The effects can be different in every person. If you feel, then you should decrease the amount of caffeine. 

  1. Blood Sugar

According to a report, Caffeine can increase as well as decrease the level of sugar. People with blood sugar or diabetes are suggested to use caffeine with caution and monitor their blood sugar frequently.
